Pillnitz castle - or the journey to "eastasia"

"A real traveler knows no plans and does not intend to arrive." Lao Tzu (circa 6th century BC)

Geographically, Pillnitz Castle, dating from the 18th century, is a suburb of Dresden and got its name from the village in which it was built. Today it is incorporated and belongs as a district to Dresden. In addition to the castle there is to see a  bunch of historical lots of gem. Small chapels line the path and the Pillnitz vineyards change color depending on the season. In the castle and the associated buildings, we can arrange individual tours according to your wishes. For example, here you can learn why this area was often referred to as "East Asia". The Chinese garden with  its pavilion is considered to be the best European replica of a closed East Asian structure.

Excursion to Pillnitz - Light on th tour!

Pillnitz by coach

Our day trip to Pillnitz Castle starts in Dresden in front of the Semper Opera House. Before we drive upstream along the Elbe river, we will show you the beautiful historic district of Dresden. Passing the three Elbe castles we will get to the "Blue Wonder", the most impressive bridge of Dresden, to cross the Elbe river.
We will follow the river, drive through old villages until we arrive at the little church "Maria am Wasser" in "Hosterwitz". Here you can take a walk and visit one of the smallest and oldest cemeteries of Dresden. This place has been used as burial place since around 1500. It is characterized by its beautiful but also strange tombs made of sandstone.
The journey continues until we arrive at our next stop "Pillnitz Castle" which was built on behalf of Friedrich August I from 1720 on. You may enjoy Saxon-French "savoir vivre" during a superb multiple-course meal at the terrace of the castle or in the dining room equipped with a cozy fireplace.
You may discover the spacious setting with palais, museum, beautiful gardens and parks, which is directly located at the shore of the Elbe river, on your own or by opting for an individual guided tour.
Heading back to Dresden, we make the next stop in the middle of the vineyards at the so-called "Weinbergkirche", the baroque village church of Pillnitz, which was built from 1723 on by the architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann who was also in charge of building the Dresden Zwinger.
